Admission Requirements

What you need to apply to ICLA’s licentiate, master’s and doctoral programs.

Licentiate and Master’s Degree Programs

Degree you need

Licentiate in Theology with Specialization in Consecrated Life
Bachelor’s Degree in Theology
Master of Arts in Theology, Major in any of the following: Consecrated Life, Spirituality, Missiology, or Biblical Ministry
Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies or any four-year course
Minimum academic standard

General Weighted Average (GWA) of 2.0 or B or 85 or higher

Documents to submit

  • Transcript of Records with Special Order (for Filipino applicants)

  • Written permission to study from the Superior or the Local Ordinary

  • Certificate of Proficiency in English

  • Two copies of 2x2 ID photos

Additional documents for foreign students

  • Passport (photocopy pages where Name, Photo, Date of Birth, Birthplace, and Valid Visa appear)

  • Immigration Card (photocopy)

  • Study Permit

  • Original Transcript of Records and its English translation, bearing the original signature of the Registrar, with school seal, and authenticated by the Philippine Embassy in the country of origin


Doctoral Programs

Degree you need

Doctorate in Sacred Theology (STh.D.)
Licentiate in Sacred Theology (STh.L.) degree
Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Theology
Master’s degree in Theology, Master’s degree in Religious Studies, or Master’s degree in any field, provided they satisfy the prerequisites; otherwise, they have to take the required prerequisites in the masteral level
Minimum academic standard

General Weighted Average (GWA) of 1.50 or 89 or higher

Admission process

  1. Take and pass the Institute’s Doctoral Admission Test (ICLA-DAT).

  2. As part of the DAT, submit a scholarly paper of 10 pages, written within a two-week period. The Area Coordinator will provide the theme or topic for research.

  3. Take the TOEFL and get a score no lower than 60%.

Applicants who pass are provisionally admitted for one semester, after which credits (for all courses taken) are evaluated.

  • Study Permit

  • Written permission to study from the Superior (for Religious)

  • Certification for Study Leave from the Bishop (for Priests)

  • Endorsement from the Local Ordinary (for Lay)

  • Two copies of 2x2 ID photos
